The ARC track teams are hosting the Northern California Track and Field Trials on Friday, May 7 and the NorCal Championships on May 14.

The Beavers performed well in the Big 8 Conference Championship trials at Diablo Valley College, and look to compete nicely in the NorCals at ARC.

The highlight of the trials came from a relative newcomer to the team, Bracin Walker. Walker won the conference championship on his last long jump attempt of the day, leaping an impressive 22'2". Chris Walden took 2nd place in the 10,000 meter race, and Durawn Howard was the top qualifier in the 400 meter and 200 meter race.

The women won their meet with a score of 259. Freshman Jenna Yowell placed first in the pole vault with a height of 3.35 meters, and sophomore Ashley Frazier took first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.95.

Other notables included sophomore Angelica Earls, who ran a 12.12 in the 100-meter dash taking third place, and American River's 4x100 relay (Scott, Frazier, Chambers, Harrison), which finished second place.

For the NorCals Trials and Finals, ARC needs some volunteers to help run a couple of smooth meets. For Friday's trials, the volunteers are needed between 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. For the finals on the May 14, volunteers are needed 1:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

"We don't expect anyone to commit to the entire duration of the meet, but if you have a few hours and want to come out and help us we would greatly appreciate it. We'll even feed you!," said track coach Rick Anderson.

Anderson said anyone interested in helping should come to the stadium (south entrance gate) and tell them you are a volunteer (that way they won't try to charge you). Once in the stadium the volunteer area is under the scoreboard. Just check in and they will tell you where to go. If you have an event area you would like to work at let them know. Anderson said no experience is necessary.

"We need everything from rakers in the long jump pit to javelin catchers (just kidding on that one – just checking to see if anyone was still reading),"  he wrote in a campus-wide email. For more information call Anderson at 484-8143.
