Labor secretary visits ARC:

Hilda L. Solis, U.S. Secretary of Labor, visited ARC Thursday, Feb. 25.

The week prior, the Los Rios Community College District received a $5 million grant to be used for health care programs on its capuses.

Solis was able to see firsthand how funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 are being used as she watched ARC health care students receive training.

"The monies the American Recovery Act that were actually made available last year are working for us right now by putting students into health care careers," said Solis.

Corrections:

In the Feb. 17th issue of the Current the last paragraphs of two stories were inadvertently omitted.

The story “Colleges flunk Barr Exam” ending on page 6 did not include the entire quote:

“I think the most interesting statistic I have encountered is that there are 57 different primary languages reported by students at ARC over the past five years,” said Barr, “Though we often think of diversity in terms of ethnicity, it is rather astounding to reflect on the wide varieties of cultures represented at ARC.”

The story “Viar:  Serving more with less” also ending on page 6 omitted the ending statement:

He asked that we understand there are people hard at work trying to find ways to make the best use of available resources, and to remember that even at the top, the problems the average student faces getting through higher education are always taken into account.

Viar assured that ARC would not see the quality of its education go down to serve the interests of a few individuals at the top of the mountain.
