SA election opinion

Like many of the students here, I didn't care what goes on at this campus. I am here to get my units, transfer, graduate, get a job, then make money. All the on-campus events and drama that go on here are just not important to me.

Being on the Current however, educated me on the actions of our student government and made me want to care.

Before joining the Current, I did not know what SA stood for. Now through my own stories and ones from my fellow staff at the Current, I learned about the extremely conservative and religious group of students that are supposed to be representing the students.

These guys turned down the music festival, opposed the day of silence, and spent the schools money an student fees on a job fair that most students knew nothing about.

And they wonder why they weren't re-elected.

I wrote the story on the music festival. Chuck Stevens, the festival's organizer, was very passionate about a school fundraising event that would be fun for the students. But no. The SA let their personal beliefs get in the way and turned down the festival for everyone.

Instead of making a difference on campus, SA only looked out for their own best interests. I hope that if they come back to run for office, they return with some balls.

Letting every little thing offend you is not the way to be a in office. You were supposed to represent us but instead left us ignored.

The festival would have generated a lot of money for the school but was turned down because certain S.A. members were not okay with the fact that bands curse, drink, and are okay with drugs. Don't be such pussies.

Cursing, drinking, and drugs are just part of rock n' roll.

You do not need to agree with what the bands are singing about.

I don't like Christian or gospel music. But if it benefitted the school, I would have no problem having an ARC Christian/Gospel Music Festival.

And now, my point.

The students of ARC have spoken. The conservative party consisting of many current S A members was not elected.

Instead, a new Student Association has been elected. These students are here to serve you and unlike our current S.A., they want you to have fun. Chuck Stevens, for example, is back on S.A., meaning the music festival could still happen.

Unfortunately this is my last semester here. But I hope that the rest of you enjoy your newly elected officials.

And to the current S.A. members, don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.
